We can't wait to invite you to visit when it's open in 2020. A great place to hike, bike and enjoy the changing fall colors. Check it out this season or next and make sure to return once the state-of-the-art learning, support, and visitor center is open. The 1929 neo-Georgian building’s brick and limestone exteriors will be preserved, with a wholesale renovation of the interiors. In recent years the building served as a theater and a film school, but will now be converted into office and commercial space. At the roof, a new steel and glass domed addition is taking shape, recalling a turtle and the Lenape Chief Tamanend, part of the historic symbolic roots of the Tammany political organization which promoted nation-building ideals of the Revolutionary War period.
Last week, BKSK partner Joan Krevlin spoke at the kickoff for the Women In the Profession of Architecture Mentoring Seminar Series, organized and curated by @anikpearsonarchitect and Nancy Kleppel to improve and enhance mentorship opportunities for new female practitioners. The events allow emerging architects to engage with the vibrant community of experienced female professionals, in the context of their individual office or practice. These professionals have all risen in the field, balanced their careers and family, managed to make a living while pursuing a career in architecture, and/or proceeded to successfully rise in the ranks, proving that there are many ways for women to persevere and prevail in the profession of architecture. ⁣ ⁣⁣
⁣
We were so inspired by the evening’s thoughtful dialogue about life as a #WomanInArchitecture and navigating the profession. ⁣

Architects regatta 2019! #regatta #sailing #architectsregatta #bksk
Remembering those lost 18 years ago on 9/11. In 2006, BKSK designed the 9/11 Tribute Visitor Center, which was built as an interim destination for visitors, family and community, while construction was underway at the @911memorial. The center allowed visitors to reflect on the events of September 11th through the integration of images, artifacts and personal narratives. The Center aimed to celebrate the vibrancy and resiliency of the community, rather than memorialize what was lost. Though we still grieve, today we also honor the first responders and spirit of New Yorkers to persevere through tragedy.

What a huge improvement to the neighborhood. It has been exciting to be a part of the restoration and renewal of several buildings surrounding this public square. We recently celebrated the completion of the Hermes store and the opening of Pastis on Gansevoort Row, and look forward to the completion of the block with several more of our projects.

What a view 👀! Today we joined our partners to celebrate the completed Gansevoort Plaza as well as other vital infrastructure upgrades in the neighborhood. The completed project features 28,454 square feet of new pedestrian space as well as new street lighting, traffic signals, plantings, and more. In addition to the new plazas and expanded sidewalks, the teams worked to preserve the historic elements of the area, including the cobblestones and manhole covers. It is a space to be enjoyed by all for years to come.

We have touched so many buildings in #mepa and love playing this role in preserving the character of the neighborhood while attracting world-class tenants!
The dome’s structure at @44unionsquare is complete and the glass is being installed!⁣

From @newyorkyimby:⁣

The curved dome atop 44 Union Square, the former headquarters of Tammany Hall, is structurally completed and the geometric glass panels that enclose the lattice frame are beginning to be installed. The renovation is designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Edifice Real Estate Partners. CNY Group is in charge of construction on the historic, 90-year-old landmarked structure, which is being expanded to 70,348 square feet. Two new floors will be housed beneath the dome and receive abundant natural daylight. Reading International (RDI), who purchased the building eighteen years ago, helped to advance the project thanks a $57.5 million construction loan they secured from Bank of Ozarks and Fisher Brothers.⁣
