Around the corner from bustling Lexington Avenue, a slender new 14-story boutique condominium supports gracious high-end living. The design was inspired above all to reflect the unusual duplex nature of the building. An expansive living room on the lower level is equipped with French doors and shallow balconies that enliven the façade, while the private bedroom floor is articulated by smaller windows. A penthouse duplex unit is reversed, suggesting adding prominence to the top floor. The architectural language of the building reflects the restrained nature of the Upper East Side, enhanced with deep set windows and a boldly projecting cornice. Light-colored masonry facade evokes the cultural memory of Schrafft’s, a once ubiquitous eatery and candy purveyor for unaccompanied ladies that formerly stood on the site. BKSK collaborated with Pembrooke & Ives on the interior design of the units.
