Interior Design’s PowerGrid NYC 50
We’re excited to be ranked in Interior Design magazine’s PowerGrid NYC 50, an annual report on top architecture and design firms influencing the city’s changing landscape over the last 18 months. Featured among the projects is BKSK’s 22 Bond Street, (across the street from BKSK’s widely commended 25 Bond). The design is a contextually sensitive, art-inspired residential loft building blending architecture and interiors through contrast and harmony. Read more here

BKSK Interiors Making a DIFFArence
BKSK was one of 20+ leading architecture and design firms that created and donated a Broadway-themed picnic basket to Picnic by Design, a fundraising event for the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA). The event brings together designers, manufactures, and artists whose picnic baskets are bid on by DIFFA supporters to raise money for the organization’s grant making efforts – helping nonprofit organizations across the country. Our basket design took a cue from the iconic Donna Summer (and the Broadway musical Summer: The Donna Summer Musical) honoring her legacy with a little bit of glitz, and a whole lot of fun. Proud to support such a worthy cause. Visit www.diffa.org to learn more.

Landmarks approves West 13th Street design
Our proposed restoration/renovation/expansion of 405-409 West 13th Street has been approved, with notable praise, by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. This project will introduce another example of intriguing change to the Gansevoort Market Historic District’s longstanding history of adaptation, reuse, expansion and contraction. (Currently, unlike during the 1930’s, for example, the district is in an expansion mode.)
The approval involved a discussion among the commissioners about how a visible rooftop architecture can “stand on its own”, yet offer a sense of dialogue between eras. This is a conversation of great interest to us, and we are so please to be among the few firms addressing the issue with creativity and aplomb!
Our design adds 3 additional floors above a 3-story former warehouse, originally constructed between 1900 and 1910, when it was used as cold storage for meat and poultry purveyors. Designed for Aurora Capital Associates, the vertical expansion will yield an additional 15,500 sf of commercial floor area.
Congratulations to the team!

Sephardic Community Center was featured under the category “Make Public Spaces Welcoming” and BKSK was noted for the renovation and expansions’ successful plaza design which invites residents to make use of the space at the building’s entrance.

SARA NY Recognizes 470 Columbus with Merit Award
470 Columbus continues to gain accolades, and was recently recognized with a 2018 Design Award of Merit from SARA NY. Intended to dialogue directly with the Upper West Side district typology, the building’s design drew inspiration from the architectural traditions of sculptural brick and terra cotta details, planes of masonry, and robust cornices. The project is designed to achieve Passive House certification, with exceptional energy efficiency and low energy use requirements.

Favorites from NYCxDesign 2018
NYCxDesign celebrates the world of design over a dozen design disciplines through exhibitions, installations and open studios in an exploration across the city’s five boroughs. This annual celebration continues to gain momentum highlighting creatives, makers and designers – and now spans the entire month of May. Of the many events across NYC, BKSK’s Interiors team caught up on trends through visits to the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Javits Center), Wanted Design (an international showcase of young and upcoming designers at the West Chelsea Historic District and Industry City) and Sight Unseen Offsite (the hub for cutting-edge contemporary design in Nolita). Click below for a photo tour highlighting a few of their favorites.
